AMC MCQs CAT FOR FORMAT;

The AMC Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) MCQ Examination is a computer- administered fully integrated multi-choice question examination delivered in one 3.5-hour session in examination centres worldwide.The examination consists of 150 A-type MCQs (one correct response from five options) It focuses on essential medical knowledge involving understanding of the disease process; clinical examination and diagnosis; and investigation, therapy and management. You are expected to complete all 150 items. Failure to complete all 150 scored items in the examination may lead to insufficient information for a reliable determination of your ability and therefore a result on the AMC adaptive scale. The examination result is recorded as ‘Fail —Insufficient data to obtain result’

CAT FORMAT:

If you’re opting for AMC CAT Exam, then you need to know the format and how the test is Administered.Read below to get an insight into the test format. Computerized adaptive testing (CAT) is a form of Computer-based test that adapts to the examinee’s ability level. It is a form of computer-administered test in which the next item or set of items selected to be administered depends on the correctness of the test taker’s responses to the most recent items administered. How it works the CAT MCQ format examination, for each candidate the first question is randomly selected from the item pool. If the answer to the question is incorrect, the next question chosen is a less difficult question; if correct, the next question is a more difficult question. This process is continued until the last question is reached. After each response, the computer calculates the ability estimate (“score”) based on all the information available and obtained to that point. The precision of the ability estimate improves as the process is continued because the questions are targeted to the latest ability estimate of each candidate, In contrast to static multiple choice questions tests that nearly everyone has experienced, with a fixed set of items administered to all examinees. You are expected to complete all 150 items,Failure to complete all 150 scored items in the examination may lead to insufficient data input into the CAT software and therefore a result ‘Fail —Insufficient data to obtain result’. That’s where the TIME MANAGEMENT is extremely important. The CAT test does not allow review of the past items for purpose of the best possible result. Adaptive tests tend to administer easier items after a person answers incorrectly. Supposedly, an astute test-taker could use such clues to detect incorrect answers and correct them. Or, test-takers could be coached to deliberately pick wrong answers, leading to an increasingly easier test. After tricking the adaptive test into building a maximally easy exam, they could then review the items and answer them correctly—possibly achieving a very high score.

NO REVIEW Of ITEMS:

In the MCQ computer administered examination candidates should complete, in the 3.5 hour examination session, all 150 questions. Each question must be answered before a further question will be administered – that is a candidate is not permitted to not answer a question and progress to the next question, and so may not go back to an unanswered question.

Similarly, once a question has been answered, a candidate cannot go back to a previous question and change a response. Note that the review policy has been revised recently and you can’t review the questions once you have attempted questions Before this candidates were able to review once they have attempted all the questions.

AMC SCORING

YOU NEED TO COMPLETE ALL 150 QUESTIONS

NOTE THAT EACH QUESTIONS DOES NOT CARRY EQUAL MARKS. THE QUESTIONS ARE SCORED DEPENDIG ON THE DIFFICULTY OF THE QUESTIONS.
It is important to note that the number of correct answers is not used to calculate a candidate’s ability. Some candidates would have been administered difficult questions whilst others would have been administered easier questions – depending on the correct or incorrect answers to previous questions. Therefore, if candidates have the same number of correct answers, the ability of the candidate that answered the difficult questions will be higher than the ability of the candidate that answered the easier questions. The AMC score is based on the candidate ability level and represented on the AMC scale.
